It all happened on the ‘Men’s Thing’ outing, when one of the party was mistakenly ‘apprehended’ whilst the Watercress police were out looking for ‘fifth column activists!! “It ain’t me guv’ was the Broadmead Gardener’s plea, as he was taken to the guards van to cool off!! After two hours, with other members of his ‘gang’, and their lady companions, we were all ‘released’ at Alton Station.
Not such a good day for the Watercress Line – two trains cancelled! – one ran out of coal and water! However we all had a good WW11 type laugh - wartime songs etc. In conclusion, it was a great day out and our thanks once again to Derek for arranging the trip.
