Heritage Weekend at St. John's

The Church was open to visitors from Thursday until Sunday.

On Saturday visiting walkers from St. Mary's Chessington  taking part in the sponsored Ride and Stride for Surrey Churches Preservation Trust dropped in.

Cyclists for the same event from Sutton and Howells Hill churches also visited.

Not to mention our own stalwarts, brave Mum and son safely back after a soggy sponsored cycle ride visiting 13 churches.  Well done and thank you Debra and John.

On Sunday there was a guided Heritage walk led by John Boult, followed by a refreshing cup (or two, or three) of our best Fair Trade Tea.

Our gratitude goes to our treasure Pat for her organisation and hard work put into this event, to Chris Beales for his help in setting up the displays and his wonderfully informative book on flora and fauna in our churchyard, (the photos are brilliant), and also to all the stewards who gave of their time to welcome visitors to St. John's.

 Ten hopes for 2017

can be found in a white folder with this cover picture - put on the bookcase in the Coffee Lounge for you to see in Heritage week.

It represents ten years of information, photos and “monitoring” of wildflowers in the churchyard by Chris Beales following the suggestion in Barbara Webb’s 2006 Report. That was based on a Survey of the churchyard by the London Ecological Unit. A copy of that Report is at the back of the folder.

Two x 100

Two St John's people completed the Prudential 100 today.

Andy Down, riding for Kings College Hospital, finished in an amazing 5:47

The Vicar, riding for the Mothers Union, took a little longer
(and blames it on not having shaved his legs this year)

Happy Birthday Kevin

Birthday Celebrations started a day early at St John's.  Beautiful, tasty cake and cup cakes made by our talented Tatiana.

Good Luck with the Surrey 100 Kevin.
