Our Scout Band ...

Kingston & Malden Scout & Guide Band recently launched their 60th Anniversary Celebrations with the release of their very first CD recording appropriately entitled "60". The Band, one of the few A graded Scout & Guide Bands in the country, was formed in 1950 with 6 members and now boasts a membership of 60 with some members as young as 8 and 9.

During 2009 the Band spent an exciting day in the recording studio and recorded 12 pieces to go on to the CD. The fruits of the all their hardwork came to fruition with the production of the finished version of the CD in December 2009. The CD includes favourites from the Band's repertoire such as; December 1963, Minnie the Moocher and Highland Cathedral and the Band are keen to recognise the support of the Royal Kingston Scout District who provided funding for the recording session.

The CD has been dedicated to the memory of Tim Eggitt - Publicity Officer and life long supporter of the Band who tragically died in November 2009. Copies of the CD are available by calling Alison on 07804 365164. The CDs cost £10 each (plus p&p where required), all proceeds from the sale of the CDs will go towards funding future band projects.

At the same time as the launch of the CD the Band's Annual Achievement awards were presented. This gave the Band's leaders the chance to recognise the achievements of the band members in 2009. The receipent of the highest award, Bandmember of the Year was Explorer Scout Aidan O'Neill.

The Band recently performed in the Lord Mayors Show in London and is planning a special 60th Anniversary Concert on Saturday 20th March 2010 at Tolworth Girls School starting at 7.15pm. Any past band members or supporters of the Band interested in coming to the concert would be most welcome.
